Two pop culture addicts' snarky musings…

Weekly Preview 9/19/10

Finally! New television all week and I couldn’t be more excited. And I apologize for the YouTube explosion, I tend to over-inform when I get geeked about something.

Monday: Usually I’m all for watching “Dancing With the Stars” but after I heard this year’s cast, including Bristol Palin and “The Situation,” I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stomach it. This, however, clears the way for me to start watching “House” again. I was a huge fan when the show started, but after a while moved on to other things. I’m really excited to dive back in and I don’t even care that I’ve missed so much.

I’ve been hearing a lot of negative thoughts on CBS’ new comedy, “Mike and Molly” (9:30 p.m.), mainly at the idea of watching a show made purely of jokes at fat people. However, I don’t think that will be the case. Sure, there’s going to be a lot of focus on their weight, they meet at an Overeaters Anonymous group after all, but I think it looks like it could be a fun show.

The 10 o’clock hour unfortunately poses a problem for me. On the one hand, there’s “Hawaii Five-O” (CBS), the new show I’ve been dying to see since I saw the promo months ago. And then there’s the third season of “Castle” (ABC) which I have been religiously following since the beginning. On the one hand “Hawaii” has Alex O’Laughlin and I’ve missed seeing him on television since they cancelled “Moonlight.” On the other hand, Castle dressed up like  Mal Reynolds for Halloween and really, how can you deny that level of fandom love in a show? Luckily there’s this handy thing called the Internet and Comcast on Demand so I know whichever one I don’t watch live I can watch later.

I think it might be prudent to start a petition to change Tuesday to Gleeday, at least for the next two or three years because really, what else is there to watch? I’m not one to stay away from spoilers and from what I’ve seen so far, “Glee” looks like it could surpass its freshman season. Looks like Tuesday is going to be my new favorite day of the week! At least, until they move it to Wednesday to make room for “American Idol.”

Right after “Glee” is a new show “Raising Hope.” I hesitate to call it a drama or a comedy because it’s a bit of both. I guess you could call it a dramadey? It’s about a young man suddenly finding himself raising a baby on his own. Well, with the help of his family, including his crazy grandmother played by Cloris Leachman. Really, I’m just happy to see her acting again and off the dance floor. The show looks like it could be really sweet.

As always, Wednesday is the dry day. Usually I am all for “Criminal Minds,” but after I heard they fired Paget Brewester and A.J. Cook I knew I just couldn’t watch anymore. That being said, I’ll probably watch the premiere because Tim Curry is so deliciously insane as this two-parter’s unsub, but after that I plan on protesting by not watching. Whether or not it will actually help remains to be seen.

I’m really looking forward to CBS’ new drama “The Defenders,” airing after CM. Jerry O’Connell has always held a special place in my heart after watching him in “Crossing Jordan” so I’m hoping it will be good. It looks like it will be really clever and different than the other crime serials on these days.

Oh Thursday. You’re full of vampires, bones, fingerprint dust and hot Australians and I love you for it. I’m probably going to opt for watching “The Vampire Diaries” online and catch “Bones” live, though with the crappy ending to last year’s finale and the nonesense that is Bones and Booth’s deicsion to not pursue any romance after finally kissing, I might switch.

CSI has gone downhill since Warrick’s death, but I stubbornly refuse to stop watching. I’ll even sit through an hour of Justin Beiber’s hair for this show and that’s all due to my two favorite actors: George Eads (Nick) and Eric Szmanda (Greg). I have always loved them and I continue to watch the show for them, despite the frankly terrible storylines that have been coming out of the show lately.  As for the Mentalist, I kind of broke up with that show when Van Pelt and Rigsby did, and they haven’t given me my box of stuff back yet so I’m on the fence as to whether or not I can forgive them yet.

I’m pretty sure with “CSI: New York” moving to Friday and the loss of Melina Kanakaredes, the show is starting to die. And unlike “Criminal Minds,” I really don’t care as much about Stella so I don’t plan on not watching in protest, though I’m afraid I’m going to hate Sela Ward’s character. I just have this feeling…

With “Supernatural” starting its sixth season Friday that gives me four days to watch the rest of season four and all of season five to catch up! I’m pretty sure I can do it.

Also: “Brothers & Sisters” on Sunday. It’s going to be epic.
