Two pop culture addicts' snarky musings…

I like long walks on the beach and candlelit dinners….

Oh wait, it isn’t that kind of site?

Seriously, though, I have been spending far too long staring at this stupid blinking curser trying to figure out the right wording to introduce myself to the masses. Or at least, what we hope will become the masses. I think the problem stems from the fact that I simply love way too much when it comes to pop culture.

My movie tastes range from action flicks to romantic comedies though I think it safe to say my favorites come from Hollywood’s Golden Age. Give me Danny Kaye and Orson Welles any day! The one genre I cannot stand, however, is the horror/thriller section of the video store. I can just barely watch “Repo! The Genetic Opera” and that has more to do with the music than the style of movie itself.

Television is a tough one to pin down too. At the moment I don’t watch any half-hour comedies, however I plan to change that very soon. I prefer the crime dramas, with “Criminal Minds” reigning supreme until the ill-advised (to put it mildly) decision to fire A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster. I absolutely adore “Glee” and, thanks to Mel, tune in for my daily hour-long session of daytime drama. I also am a huge fan of British shows, mainly “Doctor Who,” its spin-off “Torchwood” (only the first two seasons, anything beyond that doesn’t exist in my headcanon), “Primeval” and “Merlin.” So maybe I should amend that to British fantasy/sci-fi television.

The CDs in my car are a “Glee” mix, Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” Jamie Cullum’s “The Pursuit” and “A Very Potter Musical,” among others, to give you an idea of what I listen to on a daily basis. I’ll admit I own more movie soundtracks and Broadway cast recordings than any other genre, but I’m pretty sure I have at least one song from every style. Again, there’s a lot of Rat Pack in there, so I’m pretty sure I was born in the wrong era!

I don’t have a favorite author, but rather a favorite genre and judging from the two and a half shelves of “Star Wars” novels on my bookcase, I think we all know which. I also love historical fiction, especially anything set in the Tudor era and just about anything that catches my fancy: Harlequin, murder mystery and even have a few “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” books.

I’ve gone on far too long about myself so feel free to have a look around! We’ve pretty much got something for everyone and don’t hesitate to join in and discuss!

And so it begins…

Hello all! Welcome to our humble abode. My PIC (Role Models…check it out!) Sarah will be introducing herself a little later, but for now I feel compelled to let you meander through my brain before you take the less dangerous path through our blog.

I love love love (did I say LOVE?) all things pop culture. I watch a ridiculous number of television programs of all different types; I have spent a great deal of my life watching movies, probably more than I have spent doing any other activity; I majored in literature in college and continue to read read read, with an addiction to both F. Scott Fitzgerald and Meg Cabot–though I’m fond of just walking into Barnes and Noble and wandering through all the sections for fresh material; I love art from a purely emotional perspective, mostly because I have no technical expertise on the subject, tending toward impressionists like Van Gogh and sensationalists like Warhol; I am a HUGE music buff with everything from Josh Groban and Linkin Park to Dolly Parton and Britney Spears on my iPod.

I geek out at a moments notice about everything from ‘ships (that’s relationships for those of you who are not involved in the blissful geekdom known as Fan Fiction) to cinematography and youtube fanvids. Because I have spread my interests so thin, my excitement in starting this blog is palpable as I will finally have an outlet for the marathon of opinions that swim around my head after each healthy helping of pop culture.

I hope you enjoy reading through our posts, so much so that you are compelled to opine (I will never again get to use that word in context so humor me) back. Agree with us, disagree with us, start a new topic, just write something! Think of this as EJA – Entertainment Junkies Anonymous. On that note, thanks for reading through my first entry and I hope you enjoy the site.
